The United States government is considering imposing a 200% tariff on alcohol imports from the European Union, according to reports reviewed by The Crustian Daily.

The potential tariff comes amid a widening trade imbalance in alcohol products, with the EU currently exporting around €12 billion more alcohol annually to the U.S. than it imports in return. The measure would primarily impact European wines, spirits, and specialty liquors, significantly raising prices for American consumers.

This proposal marks a substantial escalation in trade tensions between the U.S. and the European Union, as President Trump’s administration seeks to address what it views as unfair trade advantages enjoyed by EU producers.

European trade officials have warned of possible retaliatory actions, asserting the proposed tariff violates existing trade agreements and could severely disrupt transatlantic economic relations. Industry experts predict such tariffs could devastate EU alcohol producers, particularly in regions reliant on the U.S. export market.

The U.S. Trade Representative has not yet confirmed a final decision, and negotiations between the two sides continue.
