Gaza Hospital Bombed as Israel Expands Assault on Civil Infrastructure

Israeli missiles struck the Al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital in Gaza City early Sunday, destroying its emergency and reception departments and rendering the facility inoperable. The attack is the latest in a wave of strikes targeting Gaza’s civil infrastructure as Israel intensifies its military campaign across the besieged territory.

The hospital, Gaza’s only Christian medical facility and a cornerstone of humanitarian care, was evacuated following the strike. Staff reported receiving a phone call shortly before the bombing from someone claiming to represent Israeli security. Israel’s military has yet to comment.

No casualties have been confirmed, but civil defense teams say the building sustained massive damage, including to nearby residential and administrative structures.

This marks at least the second time Al-Ahli Hospital has been struck since the war began. The facility previously suffered a deadly explosion in October 2023, which killed hundreds.

The Hamas-run media office condemned the bombing as “a filthy and heinous crime,” claiming it is part of a deliberate Israeli effort to destroy Gaza’s medical system. According to their count, 34 hospitals have now been rendered non-operational by Israeli fire.

The attack comes just hours after Israeli forces seized a strategic corridor further south near Rafah, signaling the expansion of a new offensive phase. Aid organizations say the escalation has cut off access to multiple southern cities and further crippled humanitarian operations.

The Crustian Daily will continue to track Israel’s strikes on civilian infrastructure and the impact on Gaza’s medical system and civilian population.
