The Israeli government has approved a comprehensive military plan to capture and maintain control over the entire Gaza Strip. The decision, announced on May 5, authorizes the Israeli Defense Forces to operate throughout Gaza and maintain an indefinite presence.
The operation, according to Israeli officials, will involve the mobilization of tens of thousands of reserve soldiers and aims to eliminate Hamas’s remaining capabilities, dismantle infrastructure, and assume control over humanitarian aid distribution. In reality, the move is an annexation of a territory that is populated by some of the most starved people on the planet. Another war crime for the only Apartheid state in the Middle East.
The humanitarian implications are dire. Aid groups warn that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are at risk of further displacement. With the blockade still in place and humanitarian corridors closed, Gaza is experiencing a total aid shutdown, widespread looting, and mounting civilian casualties. Over two-thirds of the territory has already been issued evacuation orders.
Globally, the reaction has been fractured. Some Western allies have urged restraint but stopped short of condemning the operation. Others, particularly from the Global South and Arab League, have denounced the move as a violation of international law.
